Father Walker, First Mass, Our Lady of
Guadalupe Seminary, June 2012
The Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter mourns the death of Rev. Kenneth Walker, FSSP, who was murdered on June 11, 2014 at the Rectory of Mater Misericordiae Parish in Phoenix, Arizona, where he served as assistant priest. He was dearly loved by the faithful he served and his confreres in the Fraternity.

Fr. Joseph Terra was also injured in the assault; he is hospitalized and in critical but stable condition. We ask for your prayers for the health of Fr. Terra.

We ask for your prayers for the repose of the soul of Fr. Walker and that God might grant great consolation to his family and his parishioners in this terrible tragedy. Fr. Walker was ordained a priest in 2012, and was 28 years old.

Oremus:

O God, Who didst give to thy servant, Kenneth, by his sacerdotal office, a share in the priesthood of the Apostles, grant, we implore, that he may also be one of their company forever in Heaven. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Requiem Aeternam dona ei, Domine.

Et lux perpetua luceat ei.

Requiescat in pace.

  1. I just stumbled onto this website. I realize this is old news for you aficionados of the blogosphere so bear with me—and thank you in advance.

In all respect why was this priest, Joseph Terra, going for a gun, was he actually going to use it on the would-be robber? If this was a true believer in Christ, why did he not just give the deranged man not only his coat but his shirt as well?

I’m not a judge, but I would argue that a devout, ordained Catholic (non-heretical) priest is totally submissive to Jesus Christ, bar no exceptions. A young priest, Father Kenneth Walker, needlessly lost his life under conditions that were very preventable.

It is ironic that the surviving priest, Joseph Terra, who is mostly responsible for this tragedy, is publicly forgiving the homeless intruder. He (the priest) should be the one asking for forgiveness. The wisdom of our God Jesus Christ is reflected in the Gospel of Matthew 27:52 --Then Jesus saiith to him: Put up again thy sword into its place, “for all who take the sword shall perish with the sword.” That scriptural line is self-explanatory; it’s out of the mouth of our Lord and Savior. So, I ask in good faith—why was this priest harboring a gun (.357). Make no mistake; I’m not questioning the secular legality of gun ownership here.
